Taking a test as a candidate

Logging in as a candidate

As a candidate, you can log in using the details provided by Remindo, or using details linked to the organisation where the test is being taken. If you have forgotten your username or password, or do not know them, use the recovery function or contact the person supervising the test.

Dashboard

After logging in, you will be taken to your dashboard. This page contains an Agenda section and a Test overview section. 

Agenda

The Agenda shows tests that are scheduled and/or can be started. 

• The arrow + start icon indicates that a test can be started. If you click it, you will be taken to the test start page, where you can find further information about the test.

Test overview

The Test overview contains all exams, graded practices and practice tests. Icons may appear next to each of these tests. They indicate different statuses:

• The graph icon is visible when you are allowed to view the results.
• The speech bubble icon indicates that there are comments. The colour depends on the status.
• The eye icon indicates that a review moment has been set.
• The i icon is available when you are allowed to view the feedback on components of your test.

Starting the test

After clicking the start icon, you will be taken to the test start page. Here you will find a summary of the test and, if applicable, additional instructions. Click "Start test" to begin the test. 

It may also have been configured that you need to "request permission" from the supervisor before you can start the test. In that case, click the button to request permisison.

Once permission has been granted, you can start answering questions, unless the test consists of several sections. 

If a test is divided into test sections, you must select a section after starting the test. The test may be configured so that you must choose one or more sections, or that all sections must be completed. Select a section and start the test.

Answering questions

You can answer questions by selecting or entering an answer in the corresponding fields. 

Below you can see an example of a multiple-choice question and two open questions combined.

Options when answering questions

The options presented in this section are not always available during the test take. It depends on the chosen settings by the one who configured the test. 

• Mark question
  You can mark questions so that you can easily return to a question you want to review again later. When you mark a question, a dark-blue 'bookmark' is placed next to the relevant question in the question overview at the bottom right of the screen. Before the test is closed, you will see a notification indicating that there are still marked questions.

  

• Add comment
  If commenting has been enabled, there is an option to submit a comment for each question. This will be sent to specific users who can send a response, or save the comment and view it later.  

• Calculator
  Depending on how the test has been configured, a calculator may or may not be available for one or more questions. Whether this is a simple or scientific calculator, depends on the person that composed the test.

  

• Ratio table
  A ratio table may also have been made available. You can use this when answering the question. Please note that the input in the table will not be saved! 
• Special characters
  For questions with a text field, a function can be opened to add special characters. An omega symbol appears at the top right of the text field when you place the cursor in the text field. Click it to add special symbols.  
• Read-aloud
  The read-aloud function is only available if it has been enabled. If enabled, you can have the entire text read aloud or select part of it and have that part read aloud.

• Highlight text
  Highlighting text is only possible if this function has been enabled. It may be configured for all text, only case texts, or not at all. It can be used to give a particular text in the question a colour. If this function is enabled, the text is highlighted immediately when you select text. Several options then appear that allow you to adjust the colour, add a note or remove the highlighting.

  

  • Sometimes it is configured that you may both highlight text and select text. If you then want to highlight text, you must first activate highlighting in the accessibility menu. The accessibility menu is available via the person icon at the top right of the screen. 

    

General functions during the test

Various functions are available while taking a test. Below are several images with a brief explanation of the functions of these buttons.

• Time remaining
  When a test has a set duration, a clock icon is displayed at the top left of the screen. When you click the clock, the remaining time becomes visible. 
  
  Clicking the clock displays the remaining time. If the clock is 'collapsed', it will automatically expand when 10 minutes remain. If you collapse it again, it will expand again 5 minutes before the end of the test. From 1 minute before the end of the test, it can no longer be collapsed. 

• Accessibility menu
  Via the person icon, you can access the "accessibility menu". Here you will find various options for adjusting the text.

  • Dyslexia font: You can choose to enable the dyslexia font, which looks as follows:

    

  • High contrast: this can be enabled; you can choose between the normal display and an enhanced-contrast mode.
  • Font size: Use the three letters to switch between different font sizes.
  • Language: Depending on the environment settings, it may or may not be possible to switch between different languages. This does not apply to the content of the test questions; only the language of Remindo will change. 

• Notifications
  When you receive a message from the supervisor during the test, a bell icon will appear at the top right of the screen. The dot next to the bell indicates that there are new messages.

• Instruction text
  When a test contains instruction text, this booklet icon is visible. During the test, you can use this button to open the instruction text. Any reference documents or reference materials included in the instruction text can also be found via this button.

Navigation

After answering a question, click "Save and continue". The current input will be saved and the next question will load. Remindo also automatically saves answers in between.

• Show all questions
  The "Show all questions" function places all questions on the same page. When this is enabled, the button changes to "Show one question per page". This function can be disabled and is therefore not always available. An administrator may have disabled the use of this option.

• Question overview
  An overview of the questions is displayed at the bottom right of the screen. By clicking the number of one of the questions, you go to or return to the relevant question if free navigation through the test has been enabled.

• The square with the small squares displays an overview of all questions.
• The light-blue questions have been answered.
• The white questions have not yet been answered.
• The dark-blue question is the question currently displayed on the screen, in this case question 19. 
• A 'bookmark' is displayed next to question 14; this question has been marked using the marking function, and you may want to review it again. 
• Question 18 is yellow and contains an exclamation mark, which means that this question has not yet been answered completely. 

Closing and completing the test

A test can be closed by clicking "Close" at the bottom left of the screen. 

Remindo will always ask for confirmation and may show questions that have not been answered (completely) or have been marked with a bookmark.  

A finished test can never be reopened. You can choose to return to the questions using the "Return to questions" button. If you really want to finish the test, click the "Finish" button. You can no longer make any changes; the test will be completed. It will also no longer be possible to reopen this test.

The test is also finished automatically when the time of the test has passed.

After clicking "Finish", the screen below appears, indicating that the test has been completed. Via the "Go to your dashboard" button, you return to the dashboard page with the agenda and the test overview.
