What is LTI?
LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) is an international open standard that allows a learning environment (LMS) to easily integrate with external applications, such as Remindo. Thanks to LTI, tests can be offered directly from the LMS, without users having to log in again or enter settings twice.
With an LTI integration, it's possible to make tests from Remindo available to candidates directly within an LMS. LTI also automatically returns corresponding test results to the correct location in the learning environment.
Benefits of using LTI
Using LTI offers several advantages:
- Standardization
LTI is a widely supported international standard. Therefore, it doesn't matter which LMS or testing system is used, as long as both support LTI. - Ease of use for teachers and students
Tests are available from within the familiar learning environment, and users don't need to log in separately to Remindo. - Reduced administration and error rate
Users, groups, and results are exchanged automatically, preventing manual administration and errors. - Secure data exchange
Data is exchanged via standardized, secure connections.
Setting up a LTI-connection in Remindo
In the Player environment, go to:
- Management > Settings > 'LTI' tab
- Click 'New connection' in the top right corner.
- Enter the required information to configure the LTI connection.
Difference between LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3
When adding a new LTI connection, you must immediately select which LTI version to use. Remindo supports both LTI 1.1 and LTI 1.3. Although LTI 1.3 is preferred because it is easier to use, not every LMS supports this version.
When using LTI 1.3, tests can be selected directly in the LMS, so there is no need to look up or configure anything for each test. The LMS automatically shows all tests for which the user has rights in Remindo.
If you are using LTI 1.1, the paragraph below explains how to activate each test in the external application.
LTI 1.1 - additional steps for providing tests in an external application
With LTI 1.1, the connection is largely set up from Remindo: after setting up an LTI connection, a specific LTI URL must be manually looked up for each test in Remindo to connect to a specific test. This URL is then entered in the external application (LMS). After an administrator has configured an LTI connection, coordinators can also look up this LTI URL for the tests to which the user has rights in Remindo.
Once the LTI connection has been set up, it works as follows:
- In the Player environment, go to 'Studies & Blueprints.
- Find the right blueprint.
- Click on the magnifying glass icon to the right of the blueprint.
- Test information will appear on the left side of the screen.
- Under the heading 'Create a connection using LTI', you'll see a button: 'Information to connect with' "[external application title]".
- Use the URL in the external application (LMS) to make the test available to candidates.
